Tragedy in Oceanside
On Sunday night, a traffic accident in Oceanside resulted in the tragic death of a 20-year-old Marine. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Douglas Drive and North River Road, where local authorities responded to reports of a serious collision between a car and a motorcycle.
The initial investigation by Oceanside police reveals that the accident happened when a 64-year-old woman, a resident of Carlsbad, was driving a white Volkswagen and made a left turn from Douglas Drive, heading north, to enter the AMPM gas station. At that moment, a motorcyclist traveling south on Douglas Drive collided with the right front fender of the Volkswagen. The impact was so severe that the motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle.
The motorcyclist, identified as an active 20-year-old Marine, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics who arrived quickly.
