Tragedy in Malibu
A tragedy struck Malibu on Wednesday when a vehicle veered off the road and plunged off a cliff on the Pacific Coast Highway, near Malibu Canyon Road, around 5:30 p.m.
The car, occupied by a single person, ended up overturned on its side, deeply embedded in an area of bushes about 150 feet below the main road level.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Tracy Ann Vancura, 63, a resident of Camarillo, lost her life in the impact.
Upon receiving notice of the accident, fire and emergency teams rushed to the scene and descended the wooded terrain to reach the trapped vehicle.
One of the witnesses to the accident, William Mbema, witnessed the scene and recounted that he initially saw onlookers calling for help and pointing out that a car had plunged off the cliff.
Mbema, along with other passersby, stopped to render assistance and descended the cliff to reach the wrecked car.
Upon approaching, they observed that tree branches covered the car and, unfortunately, discovered the driver's lifeless body at the accident site.
Authorities have not yet determined the exact causes of the fatal collision. The accident site is located approximately two miles north of Pepperdine University.
Mbema, the witness, took the opportunity to remind drivers of the importance of being cautious when traveling on canyon roads, highlighting the need to improve safety in these areas to prevent tragedies like this.
Both directions of Malibu Canyon Road, which were closed overnight to facilitate rescue and recovery efforts, were reopened to traffic the following morning.
