Tragedy in Long Beach
In an incident in Long Beach, deputies shot and killed a man who allegedly attempted to deliberately ram a police vehicle with his sports car. The incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. on Tuesday after deputies responded to a report of a restraining order violation in Paramount, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
The suspect, involved in the restraining order violation, drove past the residence in question and was later located near the intersection of Artesia and Downey avenues in Long Beach, on the border with Bellflower. When the deputy approached the suspect, he put the car in reverse and deliberately crashed into the front of the patrol car, according to authorities.
The suspect, who exited the vehicle holding a knife and charged at the deputies, was shot and killed by two officers. The man, identified only as someone between 35 and 40 years old, died at the scene. A deputy was taken to the hospital, where he was treated for injuries sustained in the crash. No other individuals were injured in the incident.
