Tragedy in Imperial Beach:

Imperial Beach, California — A man was arrested following a fatal hit-and-run in Imperial Beach, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported on Thursday. Deputies from the Imperial Beach Sheriff’s Substation responded to a call about a collision between a car and a pedestrian just before 11 p.m. Wednesday on the 1100 block of Connecticut Street, according to authorities. Upon arrival, deputies found a woman who had been struck by a vehicle lying on the ground. Despite life-saving efforts by paramedics, she died from her injuries. After investigating, deputies determined that the car likely involved in the collision was a red Chevrolet Camaro with a black racing stripe seen leaving the area, according to SDSO. The suspect vehicle was later located on the 700 block of Oneonta Avenue after a Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter assisted deputies in the search. The owner and driver of the Camaro was identified as Eric Cox, 62, according to deputies. Cox was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of manslaughter, felony driving under the influence with injury, and felony hit-and-run with great bodily injury/death. The identity of the woman, as well as the cause and manner of her death, have not been released pending family notification by the Medical Examiner’s Office, per the SDSO release.
