Tragedy in Garden Grove

A tragic incident in Garden Grove has left a family in critical condition after a hit-and-run reportedly caused by a driver under the influence of alcohol. The accident occurred on Sunday night, around 7:30 p.m., when the parents, on a bicycle ride, were transporting their three children in bike trailers. The collision happened near the intersection of Haster Street and Twintree Lane. According to authorities, the two adults, identified as Ángel Ramírez, 27, and Angela Hernández, 25, were riding bicycles and pulling the trailers with their children when a vehicle struck them directly. The impact caused the bicycles to be destroyed and the family members to suffer severe injuries. The driver of the vehicle did not stop after the accident and fled immediately after the collision. A witness saw the incident and decided to follow the involved vehicle. Thanks to this brave action, the police were able to locate and arrest the suspect, Ceferino Ramos, 29, a resident of Santa Ana. Ramos was detained on suspicion of driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of the accident. All members of the Ramírez family were transported to the hospital. Reports indicate that father Ángel Ramírez, 6-year-old daughter Gianna, and 5-year-old son Jacob are in critical condition. Jacob has undergone two surgeries to control the bleeding, and his situation is extremely concerning due to brain swelling and lack of response to stimuli. The youngest daughter, Lydia, 8 months old, is in stable condition, while the mother, Angela Hernández, although also injured, has been focusing on visiting her children and husband at different hospitals in Orange County. Angela Hernández shared her experience with great distress: “I fainted after the impact. I vaguely remember a car hitting us. I quickly got up to check on my children and Ángel. I couldn’t see my son move; he wasn’t responding to anything.” The impact of the accident was captured by surveillance cameras, showing the moments leading up to the collision with a black car traveling down the street. A video after the accident reveals the ruined bicycles in the middle of the street, highlighting the severity of the crash. Authorities continue the investigation and have asked anyone with relevant information to contact the police. Additionally, a GoFundMe page has been set up to support the Ramírez family in their difficult situation. This tragic event has shocked the local community, highlighting the importance of road safety and the devastating impact that traffic accidents can have on families.
