Tragedy in Carmel Mountain:
On Wednesday morning, a cyclist lost his life after being struck by a Dodge Ram pickup truck on a roadway in the Carmel Mountain Ranch area. The tragic accident occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Ted Williams Parkway, near Interstate 15, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
As a result of the accident, westbound Route 56 was closed, leading to heavy traffic congestion in the area, as reported by the CHP. The cyclist, whose identity has not been released pending notification of his family, was rushed to a hospital by paramedics, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead, according to CHP public-affairs Officer Salvador Castro.
Authorities are awaiting a toxicology report to determine whether alcohol or drugs were factors contributing to the accident, the spokesman added. This unfortunate incident has raised concerns in the community about the safety of cyclists on the roads and the need for more responsible driving by all road users.
