Tragedy in Arlington Heights, Los Angeles County
Police are conducting investigations in connection with a serious hit-and-run accident in the Arlington Heights area, which resulted in the tragic death of a woman on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:45 a.m. near 12th Avenue and Venice Boulevard. Surveillance footage captured the moment when the victim, who was crossing the street at the pedestrian crossing, was brutally struck by a small SUV truck. Investigators have identified the vehicle involved as a 2022 white Mazda CX3.
The victim has been identified by authorities as Bibiana Retana-Sosa, 66 years of age.
According to information provided by the police, the vehicle was heading east on Venice Boulevard when it struck Retana-Sosa. The driver then fled the scene without stopping.
A local resident, speaking to ABC7, mentioned that Retana-Sosa was on her way to work at the time of the fatal accident. This resident expressed concern for the safety of her neighbors when crossing Venice Boulevard, especially for the children attending the nearby elementary and middle schools.
"When they come from Crenshaw, it seems like they want to speed up instead of stopping here at 12th Street. The kids and the crossing guard are right there and they just accelerate. Some people, when crossing the street, just keep going instead of stopping. They don't stop at this corner. They just keep going," commented Carlois Berry.
Despite the efforts of paramedics to save her life, the victim passed away at the scene of the accident.
So far, no description of the driver has been provided.
The Los Angeles Police Department has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
