Shocking Loss for the LASD:
Sergeant Jason Viger of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department died in a single-vehicle traffic accident in Santa Clarita. The tragic incident occurred around 11 p.m. on August 1 at the intersection of McBean Parkway and Valencia Boulevard.
Viger, 43, was identified as the victim of the crash. He joined the department in 2008 and held various roles throughout his career, including positions at the North County Correctional Facility, Palmdale Station, Lancaster Station, the Narcotics Bureau, and most recently, the Homicide Bureau.
In a statement, the department expressed condolences to Viger's family, friends, and colleagues, highlighting his dedication and professionalism. He was particularly recognized for being the first sergeant to join the Sheriff’s Overdose Response Task Force and for his efforts during the Skirball Fire, as well as for his patrol work in removing guns from the streets.
Jason Viger is survived by his four children, his parents, and three siblings, one of whom is also a sergeant in the Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Robert G. Luna stated that Viger's passion for being a Deputy Sheriff and his untimely death have left a profound impact on the department. His unwavering commitment to protecting and serving the community will be his lasting legacy. The cause of the accident is currently unknown.
