According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), there were multiple snow and rain-related crashes and rollovers near Shaver Lake on Sunday.
CHP says they are investigating two separate incidents where someone slid into a vehicle that had already crashed, and a third slid into a vehicle stopped on the shoulder.
On Highway 168 just before the Shaver Dam, CHP says an Infinity SUV slid off the road and crashed into a tree with sufficient force to deploy the airbags.
CHP says the initial crash was non-injury. Approximately three minutes later, a Subaru Legacy approached at an unsafe speed and lost control, sliding directly toward the people from the first crash.
Investigators say the Subaru left the roadway and struck two of the occupants standing on the shoulder, resulting in serious but non-life-threatening injuries to one of the passengers from the first crash.
CHP says to wait in a safe area after a crash if the vehicles cannot be moved.
