Santa Maria:
On August 25, a 41-year-old man from Lompoc was arrested for driving under the influence after a head-on collision with another vehicle on Skyway Drive in Santa Maria, around 1:13 a.m. According to the Santa Maria Police Department, the driver failed to navigate a curve where Skyway Drive changes direction, entering the opposite lane and crashing into a vehicle driven by Mathew Venable, a resident of Santa Maria.
Venable sustained life-threatening injuries and, unfortunately, passed away on August 30 as a result of the crash. A passenger in the Lompoc driver’s vehicle was also injured, suffering a head wound that required stitches. The Santa Maria Police Department confirmed that the Lompoc driver was arrested the same night for driving under the influence and for felony DUI causing injury.
The case remains under investigation by the Santa Maria Police Department’s Traffic Unit. This tragic accident has once again highlighted the dangers of driving under the influence, claiming one life and leaving others injured. Authorities continue to work to clarify all the details surrounding this incident.
