San Diego:

A 66-year-old woman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being run over by a vehicle while she was lying on the road in the Hillcrest area, according to the San Diego Police Department. The incident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. in the 500 block of University Avenue. The woman was lying in the westbound No. 2 lane of University Avenue when she was struck by the right front tire of a Jeep Wrangler, reported the SDPD. The driver of the Jeep, a 49-year-old man, managed to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop while the woman was still underneath the car. San Diego Fire-Rescue crews had to extricate the woman from under the vehicle. According to the police, the woman suffered a left hip fracture, brain bleed, and hemorrhagic shock. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Her identity and current condition have not yet been released. The San Diego Police Department is still investigating the incident, although they have ruled out driving under the influence as a contributing factor.
