San Diego Crash:
SAN DIEGO — A 24-year-old man is recovering after being struck by a vehicle in a suspected DUI collision in the Cortez neighborhood on Saturday, authorities said.
The incident occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. when a driver, identified as 29-year-old Steven Ross, was driving a silver Mercedes sedan northbound on Seventh Avenue, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Police said Ross was involved in a collision with a parked vehicle in the 1400 block of Fifth Avenue and then fled the scene.
A pedestrian was crossing the street on the north side of the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Cedar Street when Ross failed to yield the right of way and collided with the man. The driver fled the scene again.
The pedestrian sustained an open fracture to his left leg and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. His injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
Shortly after the collision, Ross reportedly parked his vehicle on the 1600 block of Eighth Avenue. Police said he was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, as well as DUI causing injury.
