Sacramento Freeway Accident
Two California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers were injured in a collision with a wrong-way driver on a Davis freeway. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80, west of Mace Boulevard. The officers, who were in the same patrol car, had just finished a traffic stop when the wrong-way driver crashed into their vehicle, which was parked along the shoulder of the freeway.
Both officers sustained minor-to-moderate injuries, while the wrong-way driver suffered minor injuries. The officers were released from the hospital on the same day. It is unclear why the driver was traveling in the wrong lanes, and the CHP confirmed that DUI was not a factor in the incident.
The collision resulted in the closure of the number 3 lane of I-80 west of Mace Boulevard for an unspecified period. This incident was the second crash involving a CHP vehicle in the Sacramento area that day. Earlier, on Highway 99 in south Sacramento, a crash involving three vehicles, including a CHP car, occurred. Minor injuries were reported, but no one was hospitalized in that incident.
