Two suspects were shot and a girl was injured on Monday morning in Alameda County, following a pursuit in a stolen vehicle that may have been related to a deadly shooting the previous day in Manteca, according to authorities. Sheriffs from Alameda County were involved in a chase just before 2 a.m. near A Street on Hathaway Avenue in Hayward, with a stolen gray 2007 Toyota Camry, which had allegedly been carjacked from a victim in Oakland on Sunday. Law enforcement located the vehicle as it was traveling northbound on Interstate 880 near Highway 238. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver ignored the activated lights and sirens of marked patrol cars. Instead, the driver of the stolen car exited the highway and eluded authorities, driving at high speeds through San Leandro. San Leandro authorities deployed a tire deflation device to immobilize the vehicle after the driver had been driving westbound on Davis Street. The driver tried to evade the device but eventually lost control and crashed head-on into a tree on Davis Street, near Preda Street, according to authorities. A 14-year-old girl who was in the car attempted to exit the rear after the collision, but got trapped by her foot, according to law enforcement. Officers were able to rescue the teenager after the front of the vehicle started smoking and caught fire. Law enforcement reported that the other two suspects, both men, did not respond and despite numerous attempts to wake them, the officers couldn't remove them before the car was engulfed in flames. The suspects died at the scene and the girl was transported to a hospital for treatment. A firearm was found in the glove compartment of the vehicle, according to the police. Following an investigation, authorities discovered that the stolen vehicle may have been related to a homicide in Manteca on Sunday night, when a woman died from a gunshot wound inside a business. Anyone with information related to the carjacking is urged to contact the Oakland Police Department, and those with information about the homicide in Manteca can reach out to the Manteca Police Department.
