Petaluma DUI Collision
A suspected DUI crash occurred on a Wednesday night in Petaluma, resulting in one person being hospitalized with injuries and the temporary closure of Lakeville Highway, as reported by the Petaluma Police Department.
The incident came to light when a concerned community member dialed 911 at 9:28 p.m. on Wednesday to report the collision at the intersection of Frates Road and Lakeville Highway. Petaluma police Sgt. Zilverio Rivera provided details of the response by officers, who arrived to find two vehicles involved in the middle of the intersection and one individual suffering from injuries.
During their investigation, officers interacted with one of the drivers, identified as 63-year-old Phillip Chaney from Bellevue. Chaney displayed apparent signs of intoxication by alcohol, raising suspicions of driving under the influence.
While the DUI investigation unfolded, the injured individual received medical attention via an ambulance dispatched by the Petaluma Fire Department, which transported them to a nearby medical facility.
Subsequently, officers determined that Phillip Chaney had been operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. As a result, they arrested him and transported him to the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility, following his medical clearance. Chaney was booked on suspicion of DUI collision with injury.
Lakeville Highway, which had been temporarily closed due to the crash, reopened around 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Jail records indicated that Phillip Chaney remained in custody as of Thursday morning, with bail set at $100,000.
