Olivehurst collision:
A woman died and three people were injured in a car crash on Monday morning in Olivehurst, Yuba County, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported. The incident occurred around 5:29 a.m. on Highway 70 near the McGowan Parkway off-ramp. A 19-year-old driver, Alannah Eastern, was driving a Buick in the wrong direction and collided head-on with a Toyota SUV. The 47-year-old woman driving the Toyota, identified as Francisca Monzono from Elverta, died at the scene.
Jerado Perez, a local resident, mentioned hearing screams and saw traffic come to a halt as police and emergency services arrived. Perez and his father were able to see the crash from their backyard, describing the scene as chaotic, with one of the cars completely crushed.
Both a passenger from the Toyota and one from the Buick were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Eastern, the Buick driver, was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and for causing injury while driving under the influence. She was airlifted to a hospital due to her own injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the crash, while the community mourns the loss of Monzono, who was identified by the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office.
