Inclement Weather Alert
In Santa Cruz County, the recent heavy rain has presented a series of challenges for first responders. On Sunday evening, around 8:15 pm, a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer was rear-ended while attending to a rollover accident on southbound Highway 17 near La Madrona Drive.
The collision resulted in injuries to both the officer and the occupants of the other vehicle. They were transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. KION News reported that the occupants of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, a 25-year-old female driver, and a 30-year-old male passenger from Santa Cruz, suffered minor injuries. However, a 58-year-old female passenger from Cambria was seriously hurt, and the officer was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center with moderate injuries.
The CHP's Santa Cruz station issued a reminder to all drivers to exercise caution and reduce speed, especially during adverse weather conditions and on wet roads. The safety of everyone on the road is a top priority, and responsible driving is encouraged.
On Monday, concerned community members inquired about the officer's well-being, and the CHP representative responded with assurance that the officer was recovering. The incident prompted discussions about the importance of road safety and the need for increased enforcement during inclement weather.
Furthermore, on Tuesday morning, CHP announced road closures and responded to another accident on Highway 17 due to the challenging weather conditions. They advised motorists to expect delays and plan alternate routes when necessary.
