Incident in Highlands

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department carried out the arrest of a 15-year-old suspect for attempting to assault a sheriff's deputy while amidst a crowd at an illegal gathering on the streets. The incident took place in the city of Highland, specifically at the intersection of Victoria and Highland Avenues, in the early hours of May 11th. According to the statement issued by the department, the situation turned violent when a group of individuals surrounded the deputy's patrol car at a traffic light, proceeding to strike and kick the vehicle. Some individuals even used unknown objects to cause additional damage, including to the front windshield. In the midst of this chaos, an even bolder act was recorded: a teenager, whose identity has not been revealed due to being a minor, attempted to open the driver's side door of the police vehicle, apparently with the intention of assaulting the officer. Fortunately, the deputy managed to maintain control of the situation and prevent the young individual from carrying out his criminal act. Detectives in charge of the investigation obtained video footage capturing this concerning moment, allowing them to identify the suspect and proceed with his arrest at his residence in Highland. The teenager was transported to the San Bernardino County Juvenile Detention Center, where he will face charges of attempted assault and vandalism. It is important to note that the sheriff's deputy did not sustain injuries during the attack, but the incident remains under investigation by authorities. This event highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement officers in the region and underscores the need to maintain safety on the streets, especially in situations of tumult and violence like this.
