Highway Cliff Drama in Malibu
A harrowing incident unfolded when a California sheriff's deputy and his loyal K-9 partner found themselves hanging precariously from a cliff after their patrol car collided with an allegedly drunk driver's vehicle. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office reported that the incident occurred on a Saturday night around 8:40 p.m. local time. Deputy Castaneda was responding to a call for service related to a "suspicious subject call in the parking lot" near Neptune’s Net, a popular seafood restaurant. As Deputy Castaneda was driving southbound on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) near Deer Creek Road, his patrol unit collided with a white sedan traveling northbound on PCH. The impact sent the deputy's vehicle airborne, and it landed on large boulders near the shoreline below. Fortunately, the deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and his K-9 partner, Danny, only suffered a minor cut to his face. Both the deputy and the driver of the white sedan were transported to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment. Subsequently, the driver of the white sedan, who was already on probation for a DUI, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and booked at the Ventura County Main Jail for felony DUI. Photos shared by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office depicted Castaneda's patrol car lodged on rocks above the water, and the deputy receiving medical treatment in the back of an ambulance with his faithful canine companion by his side. The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. The sheriff's office expressed gratitude that Deputy Castaneda and Danny escaped more serious injuries. However, the California Highway Patrol had not yet responded to requests for comment at the time of reporting.
