Heavy Traffic in Sacramento:
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Traffic was heavy Friday morning on southbound I-5 in Sacramento after a big rig and a Toyota Corolla were involved in an accident. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the incident around 4:15 a.m. near Sutterville Road. Reports indicate that the truck, which was carrying hay, overturned, spilling its load onto the road and blocking several lanes.
Traffic was severely impacted, with long lines of vehicles stopped as cleanup crews worked at the scene. Authorities were eventually able to reopen all lanes around 9:30 a.m., allowing traffic to resume its flow.
As a result of the accident and the halted traffic, another vehicle north of the crash site caught fire. Although crews quickly extinguished the flames, drivers passing by around 5:30 a.m. could still see the smoke.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported either in the truck accident or in the vehicle fire, according to the California Highway Patrol. Given the situation, drivers were advised to take Highway 99 as an alternate route to avoid the congestion.
