Accident on Highway 152

In a heartbreaking incident, two young girls aged 4 and 7 lost their lives in a multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Friday morning on state Highway 152, just east of Gilroy in Santa Clara County, California. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed this tragic news. The collision involved five vehicles and took place shortly after 7 a.m. on Highway 152, near Lake Road. A 25-year-old man from Los Banos, driving a 2021 Tesla, attempted to pass a Peterbilt big-rig by using the eastbound lane while traveling west on the highway. Regrettably, he struck a 2018 Honda that was heading in the eastbound direction. The impact caused a chain reaction, with the Tesla colliding with a 2017 Dodge head-on, leading to another collision with the big-rig. The Tesla spun out of control and ended up hitting a 2020 Subaru. Tragically, a 7-year-old girl in the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 4-year-old girl, also in the same vehicle, was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries. Thankfully, a 1-year-old boy in the Dodge emerged from the accident unscathed. The occupants of the Honda, driven by a woman from San Jose, as well as the driver of the Subaru, sustained minor injuries. Notably, CHP reported that no drivers were arrested or cited at the scene. The ongoing investigation is yet to determine if alcohol or drugs played a role in the tragic collision. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the case to contact Officer Vasquez from the CHP's Hollister-Gilroy office at (408) 427-0700.
