A tragic hit-and-run incident occurred on February 21 in northeast Bakersfield, resulting in the death of a 32-year-old male pedestrian. The accident took place around 9:29 p.m. at the intersection of Columbus Street and Rice Street.
According to the Bakersfield Police Department, a dark sedan traveling eastbound on Columbus Street struck the pedestrian, who was walking northbound in an unmarked crosswalk.
After the collision, the driver of the sedan fled the scene without providing any assistance to the victim. Despite efforts by first responders to save the pedestrian, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances of the crash. It remains unclear whether speed or impairment played a role in the incident. BPD has urged anyone with information about the collision to contact them at 661-327-7111.
