An early morning accident on Highway 126 near Piru resulted in the death of a 29-year-old woman from Fillmore, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on the westbound side of Highway 126, close to Camino Del Rio, just east of Piru and near the Los Angeles County line. CHP officers were dispatched to the scene following an alert received via a cellphone.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered a 2019 Jeep Wrangler overturned with the driver, who was the sole occupant, trapped inside. CHP Officer Ryan Ayers confirmed that the woman was declared dead at the scene.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle veered onto the dirt and brush-covered right shoulder for unknown reasons, at an undetermined speed. The Jeep subsequently hit a drainage culvert, causing it to flip over and land on its roof, west of the culvert, and suffer extensive damage.
The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending family notification. Authorities are still investigating the crash and have not ruled out drugs or alcohol as contributing factors.
This accident marks the second fatal incident on Highway 126 within a week, following the death of an 85-year-old woman on October 22 near Fillmore, after the car she was in collided with a metal post.
