Fatal Collision in Johnson Valley:
On July 15, 2024, around 2:30 p.m., San Bernardino County firefighters responded to a fatal head-on collision on State Route 247 near Rattlesnake Road in Johnson Valley. The accident involved a Ferrellgas truck carrying propane canisters and a passenger vehicle, resulting in an explosion and fire in both vehicles.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the head-on collision caused both vehicles to catch fire, with multiple propane tanks on the truck exploding before firefighters arrived. When emergency crews reached the scene, they found the passenger vehicle fully engulfed in flames.
Two people were transported by ground ambulance to a trauma center, and one was pronounced dead at the scene. State Route 247 is closed in both directions while cleanup and safety measures are underway. Traffic is being diverted east and west through the desert.
A Ferrellgas representative arrived at the scene to assist with securing the remaining tanks and addressing any potential leaks. The California Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation, and further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
