Fatal Accident on Highway 46:
TEMPLETON, California — Two people were killed and one was seriously injured in a head-on collision that occurred on Monday night in Templeton, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The crash happened just after midnight on Highway 46, about four miles east of Highway 41.
CHP reported that the two fatalities were in a 2020 Hyundai, while the person with major injuries was driving a 2005 Ford F350.
Around 12:03 a.m., the Hyundai was traveling westbound on Highway 46 when it crossed into the eastbound lane in an attempt to overtake a tractor-trailer in front of it. As it crossed over, the Hyundai collided with the Ford F350 driver at an unknown speed, CHP reported.
The driver and passenger in the Hyundai were killed upon impact, and their identities are currently being withheld pending notification of next of kin. CHP stated that impairment is not suspected to be a contributing factor.
The crash is still under investigation, and authorities are gathering information to determine the exact causes of the collision. The California Highway Patrol continues to evaluate the factors involved to clarify the incident and prevent similar future accidents.
