Fatal Accident in Oceanside:
OCEANSIDE, Calif. — A tragic accident occurred Thursday night in Oceanside, leaving one man dead and another arrested, according to the Oceanside Police Department on Friday. The crash took place on westbound State Route 76, east of Loretta Street, around 11:08 p.m.
According to police, a BMW sedan driven by Dejhaun Jones, a 20-year-old Oceanside resident, lost control and rolled over. The passenger, a 22-year-old man also from Oceanside, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered severe injuries, including head trauma.
The passenger, whose identity is being withheld pending family notification, was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 3:18 a.m. on Friday.
Meanwhile, Jones sustained minor injuries. After further evaluation, it was determined that he was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the crash, police reported. He was taken into custody and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI-related charges.
