Tragedy Strikes at El Rio Estates, Shasta County
The Shasta County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in connection with the homicide and assault that occurred on Friday night at El Rio Estates. Crystal Ann Odom, 30 years old, was taken into custody after being identified as a suspect in the murder and assault investigation. According to the Sheriff's Office, Odom is related to both the homicide victim and the assault victim, and had previously resided at the residence where the murder took place.
After discovering this information, agents obtained an arrest warrant for Odom and found her at the Quality Inn hotel in Redding, located on Hilltop Drive. Following questioning, Odom confessed to both the murder and the assault. She is currently being held at the Shasta County Jail on a one-million-dollar bail.
Odom will be prosecuted at the Shasta County Superior Court on Wednesday, November 1st, at 1:30 p.m.
On Friday night, around 10:15 p.m., KRCR received reports of a large law enforcement presence near El Rio Estates on Riverside Avenue, which had been cordoned off with crime scene tape while authorities investigated an incident in the area. On Saturday morning, the Shasta County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) confirmed that a woman had died at El Rio Estates, with injuries consistent with a homicide.
The SCSO reported that around 9:04 p.m. on Friday, officers were dispatched to El Rio Estates in Anderson based on reports of a shooting victim. Upon arrival, they discovered a deceased woman and another woman with injuries consistent with an assault at a residence on Riverside Avenue. The second woman was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and has since been discharged, according to the SCSO.
The SCSO has stated that this appears to be an isolated incident and there is currently no threat to public safety.
Additional information, such as the motive behind the crime, will not be disclosed. The autopsy of the deceased has been scheduled, and her identity will be kept confidential until her family can be notified, as per the SCSO.
As of now, the SCSO has not reported any additional arrests in connection with this alleged homicide nor named any persons of interest.
