Death in Oak Park
The San Diego Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred overnight in the Oak Park neighborhood.
Authorities received a call Thursday night at 10:54 p.m. reporting a car accident at 60th Street and Michael Street. Responding officers found a vehicle along the west curb line that had crashed into a fence. An unresponsive man was located in the driver's seat.
After emergency services removed the man from the vehicle, it was determined that he was suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body, as reported by the police.
Despite life-saving measures performed by San Diego Fire-Rescue Department paramedics, the victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly thereafter. His identity has not been disclosed.
No suspects were located at the scene, police said. Homicide detectives were called in to investigate.
At this point, the San Diego Police Department has learned that the victim was possibly involved in some type of verbal altercation with two other men in the nearby area. It's believed that the victim was shot during that fight and then attempted to drive away, leading to the crash.
According to a neighbor, they reportedly heard a gunshot, and when they looked out the window, they saw a car driving quickly down the street.
The suspect(s) were described as possibly Hispanic men, said the police. Their ages are unknown. No further details have been provided.
Homicide detectives are in the process of attempting to locate any witnesses, surveillance video, or physical evidence that may assist in solving this case.
