Shasta County, California — The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that two people were killed in a car accident along Highway 299 in Shasta County early Thursday morning.
The CHP received an iPhone crash notification around 2:17 a.m. and responded to the collision near the community of Bella Vista at Blue Sky Road.
When officers arrived, they found a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck overturned off the side of the road. The two men involved, the driver and the passenger, were deceased.
CHP indicated that the vehicle was likely heading east on Highway 299 when it struck the guardrail and overturned on the Salt Creek Bridge.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, but police at the scene noted that the driver was traveling at high speeds, possibly over 70 miles per hour.
The identities of the deceased are being withheld until their families are notified.
