Deadly Collision on I-805:

CHULA VISTA, California. — On Friday morning, one person was killed in a solo-vehicle crash on Interstate 805 in Chula Vista, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The incident was first reported around 6:45 a.m. According to CHP, a Toyota Corolla with two passengers had been traveling northbound on I-805 when, for unknown reasons, it veered off the roadway and struck a concrete pillar just north of Telegraph Canyon Road. Initial reports from CHP indicated that the vehicle may have caught on fire after the collision, although authorities later clarified that no flames were observed coming from the vehicle. As a result of the crash, one of the passengers, a 23-year-old man from Newark, California, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said. Further details about his identity are being withheld by law enforcement at this time. The driver, a 24-year-old man from Oakland, California, and the second passenger, described as a 50-year-old, sustained major injuries. Both were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their identities are also not known at this time, according to CHP. An investigation into the incident is ongoing. CHP closed three of the right-hand lanes of northbound I-805 for several hours due to the investigation on site, as well as clean-up efforts. All lanes have since been reported to be reopened. At this stage of the investigation, CHP said that drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as suspected factors in the crash.
