Crash in Prunedale:
A woman was arrested following an accident in a construction zone in Prunedale on Thursday night. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Rocio Ortiz, 42, was driving under the influence of alcohol when she entered a closed lane on Highway 101, south of Blackie Road, at around 11:06 p.m.
The CHP press release detailed that Ortiz was driving a Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Highway 101. Despite the traffic cones indicating that lane 2 was closed, she continued driving in that lane and eventually crashed into the rear of a stopped semi-truck with two trailers.
At the time of the crash, a CHP officer was working within the construction zone and responded immediately. Ortiz was taken to a hospital with major injuries. Authorities reported that she was the only person in the vehicle, while the truck driver was not injured.
Following the accident, Rocio Ortiz was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). This incident highlights the dangers of driving while intoxicated and the importance of respecting construction zones on the roads, especially at night.
