Crash in Piedmont

In Piedmont, on June 14th, a serious accident occurred between two vehicles at the intersection of Oakland and Highland avenues. According to Captain Chris Monahan of the Piedmont Police Department, the incident took place around 5:20 p.m., when one of the drivers allegedly ran a red light and collided broadside with the other vehicle that had the right of way. Fortunately, both the driver and passengers of the impacted vehicle were wearing seat belts and emerged physically unharmed. The situation took a concerning turn when officers discovered that one of the drivers, identified as Mario Arias, had attempted to conceal "a bag of alcohol" in a bush after the accident. According to Captain Monahan, Arias showed obvious signs of being under the influence of alcohol. After conducting a sobriety test at the scene, which Arias did not pass successfully, preliminary blood test results indicated alcohol levels of 0.225 and 0.228 percent. Subsequently, a warrant was obtained for a more detailed blood analysis. Mario Arias, who was already on probation for a previous DUI, was arrested on the spot and later taken to the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. In addition to facing DUI charges, he now faces an additional accusation for violating probation due to this second DUI incident in the past 10 years. This incident underscores the serious threat that driving under the influence of alcohol poses to public safety. The Piedmont Police took the opportunity to remind the community that driving under the influence is not only illegal but can also result in serious consequences, not only for the driver and passengers involved but also for other road users.
