Collision in Harbor Gateway:
On Tuesday morning, a violent hit-and-run accident involving two trucks caused severe damage to a gas station car wash in Harbor Gateway. According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the collision occurred shortly after 5 a.m. at the intersection of 190th Street and Normandie Avenue.
The LAPD reported that a white pickup truck, traveling at high speed, struck a blue truck, causing it to spin around at the intersection. The white truck then continued onto the curb, avoiding the fuel pumps but crashing into the gas station's car wash.
The occupants of the blue truck were not injured, authorities added. The driver of the white truck, who lost control of the vehicle, fled the scene in an unknown direction and remains at large as of 9:30 a.m.
Gas station employees were unable to immediately provide surveillance footage of the crash, but KTLA photojournalist Ed Almonte captured the aftermath; the white truck, which had tires in its bed and appeared to be towing a trailer, remained partially inside the car wash with debris scattered across the gas station parking lot.
The other truck involved was shown to have come to rest on the opposite side of the gas station.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
