CAMARILLO, Calif. — A traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase that ended in a rollover crash on the 101 Freeway in Camarillo early Sunday morning. The incident unfolded around 12:03 a.m. when deputies attempted to stop a Toyota 4Runner for driving without headlights at the intersection of Peoples Avenue and Barry Street, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
The vehicle matched the description of one involved in a retail theft about 30 minutes earlier, authorities said. Additional details about the theft were not provided.
As a deputy approached the vehicle, the suspects fled, triggering a high-speed pursuit. The chase abruptly ended when the driver made a sharp left turn and crashed into the center median on the 101 Freeway, causing the vehicle to roll over.
Both occupants of the 4Runner were taken to the hospital, though their conditions are currently unknown. Authorities have not provided further information about the injuries or the potential connection to the reported theft.
