Chain-reaction crash in Lakeview:
Six people, including two children, lost their lives in a chain-reaction crash in the Lakeview area of Riverside County on Monday afternoon. According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when a driver attempted to pass on the right shoulder of Gilman Springs Road.
The driver ran out of space and collided with a guardrail, causing the vehicle to swerve back into traffic and triggering a chain-reaction crash involving three other vehicles.
The driver of the passing vehicle died at the scene, while one of their passengers was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
One of the other vehicles involved was forced off the road and into a field, where it caught fire, sparking a small brush fire. An adult and two children in that vehicle died at the scene.
Initially, authorities believed only four people had died, but upon further examination of the wreckage, they discovered two additional victims. The ages and identities of the victims, including the children, have not yet been released.
This tragic accident has shocked the Riverside community, and authorities are continuing to investigate the exact causes of the multi-vehicle crash.
