A quick-thinking motorist witnessed the horrifying act and followed the fleeing driver while alerting the police. The authorities managed to apprehend 25-year-old Vakautakava Tangitau shortly after, arresting him on murder charges without any complications. The motive behind Tangitau's violent actions remains unclear, and the identity of the deceased has not been disclosed. The incident occurred in Fairfield, which is situated approximately 45 miles southwest of Sacramento.

A man has been taken into custody after a fatal DUI hit-and-run accident that occurred on Friday night in Rancho Cordova, as reported by officials. The incident, which took place near the intersection of Douglas Boulevard and Borderlands Drive, involved a collision between at least two vehicles, resulting in the death of a female driver at the scene, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. Additionally, three individuals, comprising one adult and two children, were transported to a hospital with minor injuries but are anticipated to make a full recovery, as stated by Metro Fire and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. A 33-year-old man was apprehended and subsequently charged early Saturday morning with felony DUI and manslaughter under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as announced by Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office. Initially described as a "possible hit and run" in a social media update by the Sheriff’s Office on Friday night, the suspect's online jail records did not reflect a hit-and-run charge. Currently, the suspect is being held without the option for bail and is due in court on Wednesday. All injured parties were occupants of the same vehicle, Metro Fire confirmed. Authorities, including crime scene and traffic investigators, were present at the location on Friday night. The investigation is being led by the Rancho Cordova Police Department, which operates under contract with the Sheriff’s Office and is staffed by its deputies.
