Bullets Fly on 405 Freeway
In a shocking incident that unfolded during the morning rush hour, a driver was shot on the 405 Freeway in the Sherman Oaks area. The incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. when a Chevy Bolt crashed into the center divider on the northbound side of the freeway near the Burbank Boulevard off-ramp. What was initially perceived as a routine accident quickly turned into a crime scene when officers and paramedics arrived and discovered the wounded driver.
The injured man was promptly transported to a hospital, though his condition remained unknown. Police were confronted with a perplexing case as no suspect information was immediately available, and the shooter was still at large. Authorities have not ruled out road rage as a potential motive behind the shooting.
CHP Officer Casey Ramstead issued a warning to the public, urging them to exercise caution in road rage situations, advising drivers to call 911 and head to the nearest police station if they feel threatened. As investigators combed the scene for clues, early morning traffic on the northbound side of the freeway was severely disrupted, with two lanes open for several hours and three lanes remaining closed.
Around noon, the California Highway Patrol made the decision to temporarily shut down all northbound lanes once again, intensifying the search for evidence related to the incident. After a lengthy closure, the lanes finally reopened around 12 p.m., bringing some relief to the commuters who had been caught up in the unexpected and unsettling ordeal.
