Several individuals, including a man suspected of child abuse, were arrested in El Cajón over the course of a week with the assistance of license plate reading cameras, according to authorities. According to the El Cajón Police Department (EPD), the automated cameras sent real-time crime alerts to law enforcement in four separate instances between September 22 and 26. In the first alert, officers received a notification detecting a stolen vehicle around 2:30 a.m. on September 22. Although the exact location was not revealed, officers found an unoccupied 2018 Kia Sedona. Despite no arrests being made in this case, the vehicle was recovered. In the second alert, officers received a notification about another stolen vehicle, a 2020 Honda Civic, around 11:30 p.m. on September 24. They found the vehicle in the Main Street area. Jason Cruz, 24, was arrested and found to have a prior arrest warrant for auto theft. In the third alert, officers received a notification around 2:40 a.m. on September 26, detecting another stolen vehicle, a 2010 BMW, on Lexington Avenue. Khalil Williams, 26, was arrested for auto theft. Additionally, a passenger in the car, 41-year-old Victor Fernández, was also arrested for a child abuse warrant. Finally, in the fourth alert, officers were alerted about a stolen vehicle around 10:55 a.m. in the Broadway and Mollison Avenue area. They found and recovered a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica and arrested the driver, 37-year-old Arthur Jones.
