Accident on Highway 101

An 83-year-old woman from Cambria suffered serious injuries in a car accident involving two vehicles on Highway 101, north of San Luis Obispo, near the Cuesta Grade, Tuesday morning. According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 8:50 a.m. when officers responded to a collision report on the southbound side of Highway 101 at Tassajara Creek Road, south of Santa Margarita. The crash occurred when an 83-year-old woman, driving a 2011 Toyota Camry, was heading east on Tassajara Creek Road and turned in front of a 2017 Honda Civic traveling south on Highway 101, driven by a 47-year-old man from Atascadero with a passenger. The impact happened when the front of the Honda struck the left rear of the Toyota, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles and injuries to their occupants, according to the official statement. The Honda driver suffered minor lacerations to the face and torso pains, while the woman driving the Toyota sustained serious injuries and was urgently transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for specialized medical care. Meanwhile, the man did not require hospital transport, as indicated in the official statement. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to have been contributing factors in the accident, according to authorities. This unfortunate incident underscores the importance of road safety and caution while driving, especially in high-traffic areas like Highway 101 near the Cuesta Grade. Authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident to determine responsibilities and apply appropriate measures as established by law.
