Accident in Thousand Oaks

An accident involving a truck carrying pool chemicals blocked several lanes of SR-23 in Thousand Oaks on Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The accident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. near Janss Road, leading to a temporary road closure due to the spill of hazardous materials. In a photo posted by the CHP on X, a dark gray Toyota Tacoma with significant front-end damage can be seen. Around the vehicle, barrels of unknown chemical products are scattered across the road, further complicating the situation. CHP Moorpark reported on X that officers were at the scene of the accident on southbound SR-23 at Thousand Oaks Blvd. In addition to the crash, a minor hazardous materials incident was reported as the pool chemicals in the back of the truck spilled. Consequently, traffic was diverted on southbound SR-23 at Janss Rd, with the closure expected to last approximately another hour. Investigators mentioned that the truck driver struck two more vehicles during the accident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Although all traffic was initially halted, lanes began to reopen slowly shortly after, allowing drivers to continue their journeys. The CHP has assured that there is no immediate danger to the public but urges drivers approaching the area to exercise caution. The quick response of officers and hazardous materials teams was crucial in controlling the situation and minimizing the traffic impact. This incident highlights the importance of driving carefully and being aware of road conditions, especially when transporting hazardous materials. The CHP continues to monitor the situation and provide updates to ensure the safety of all drivers.
