On Friday, several people were injured in a head-on collision in Sorrento Valley, authorities reported. According to the San Diego Police Department, the incident occurred in the 6200 block of Carroll Road shortly before 1:30 p.m. A 26-year-old man was driving a 2020 Toyota 86 eastbound, while a 52-year-old man was driving a 2012 Toyota 4Runner westbound. For reasons still under investigation, police stated that the driver of the Toyota 86 "did not properly negotiate the curve of the road" and crossed into the opposing lane, causing a head-on collision with the driver of the Toyota 4Runner. The driver of the Toyota 86 sustained fractures to his legs, pelvic area, and left arm. The driver of the other vehicle sustained fractures to his spine, left ankle, and sternum. Two passengers in the 4Runner were also injured. One sustained a fractured spine and internal bleeding, while the other had internal bleeding and fractured ribs. Police confirmed that drug use is suspected to be a determining factor in this head-on crash. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to clarify all the circumstances that led to this accident and determine the corresponding responsibilities. This tragic accident highlights the importance of caution when driving and the dangers associated with substance use while operating a vehicle.
