Accident in Solano:
On Saturday morning, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported finding a car overturned and submerged in water near Highway 37 at Skaggs Island, Solano County. At 6:30 a.m., a CHP officer patrolling the area noticed a car floating upside down with oil and fluids around it.
The crash also brought down some power lines, though CHP did not specify whether there was a power outage in the area. At 7:40 a.m., CHP closed all eastbound lanes of Skaggs Island Road. At 9:16 a.m., fire crews recovered a body from the vehicle while the roads remained closed.
The roads were reopened after the car was towed at 9:55 a.m., although traffic was backed up for several hours. By 10:45 a.m., all roads were cleared.
Highway patrol officers believe the car crashed on Saturday and remained submerged overnight. "Alcohol may have been a factor," CHP told KRON4, but confirmation of a possible DUI is pending further investigation.
CHP has not released the identity of the deceased driver. The investigation continues to determine the exact causes of the accident and any additional factors that may have contributed to the tragedy.
