Accident in Santa Cruz:

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office has identified the man who lost his life in a head-on collision that occurred on Saturday on Freedom Boulevard. The victim was identified as Luke Thomas Salem, 23, a resident of Santa Cruz, according to a spokesperson for the sheriff's office. The accident was reported around 7:35 a.m. on Freedom Boulevard, east of McDonald Road. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the head-on collision involved a red 2017 Honda CRV and a 1966 Chrysler Newport. The cause of the accident is still unknown. Salem, who was driving the Chrysler westbound, was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts, as reported by the CHP. The driver of the Honda, a 49-year-old man traveling east on Freedom Boulevard, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital. At this time, authorities have not determined if drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident, added the CHP. This tragic incident has left the Santa Cruz community in shock as the causes of the crash are being investigated.
