SAN DIEGO — Officials are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a car early Monday afternoon.
According to a press release from the California Highway Patrol, the male pedestrian was crossing the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 when he was struck by a Tesla Model Y traveling southbound in the HOV lanes.
The release stated that officers responded to the crash scene on southbound Interstate 5 near North Birmingham Drive around 2:30 p.m. While the Tesla driver was unharmed, the pedestrian died from his injuries at the scene.
The California Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident. Initial reports suggest that the pedestrian may have crossed the traffic lanes unsafely, leading to the tragic collision with the Tesla.
The case remains under investigation, with authorities gathering evidence and testimonies to clarify all details of the accident. The California Highway Patrol has urged drivers and pedestrians to exercise increased vigilance on the roads to prevent similar accidents in the future.
