Accident in Perris
On Wednesday morning, a traffic accident in Southern California left a man from Perris hospitalized and a driver from Menifee under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. According to California Highway Patrol officer Mike Lassig, the incident occurred just after 7 a.m. at the intersection of I-215 and SR-74.
The arrested driver, Rudolfo Florez, 34 years old and a resident of Menifee, was behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi when he exited the southbound I-215 and headed towards SR-74 at an unknown speed. The Mitsubishi crashed into a Mazda 6 that was stopped, waiting for the traffic light to change. The impact from the Mitsubishi pushed the Mazda into a 2017 Ford F550 work truck that was also stopped at the red light.
Paramedics from Cal Fire and the Riverside County Fire Department arrived at the scene to assist those involved in the accident. Spokesperson Maggie De La Rosa indicated that the driver of the Mazda, whose identity has not yet been released, was transported by ambulance to the Riverside County Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. Fortunately, the driver of the Ford F550 truck, a 49-year-old man from Fontana, was uninjured and declined further treatment.
Rudolfo Florez was arrested at the scene and faces serious DUI charges, as he drove under the influence of alcohol and caused injuries to another person. Florez will be transported to the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center for processing. This incident underscores the importance of avoiding driving under the influence of alcohol, as it can lead to dangerous situations that affect everyone on the road.
The California Highway Patrol reminds that DUI-related accidents are preventable. It is recommended to designate a sober driver or use transportation services to ensure your own safety and that of others. DUI prevention is crucial to reducing road risks and protecting the community from avoidable tragedies.
