Accident in Oakdale

A fatal accident occurred on Saturday morning on Yosemite Avenue in Oakdale, leaving the driver dead, as reported by the Modesto Fire Department. The crash took place north of Wakefield Drive and the victim was a 34-year-old man from Waterford, reported the California Highway Patrol in a press release. Around 1:40 a.m., Engine 28, Engine 27, and Battalion Chief 5 responded to a car wrapped around a power pole. The Highway Patrol received their call shortly after 2 a.m. The Highway Patrol's preliminary investigation found that the driver of a 2012 Audi sedan was traveling southbound in the "slow lane" of South Yosemite when he veered left into northbound lanes. He continued onto the raised concrete edge before hitting the Pacific Gas & Electric pole. The driver was alone in the car and was wearing a seatbelt. It is still unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident, according to the statement. There is no mention of speed or braking efforts. Teams attempted to extricate the driver for about 20 minutes. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, according to the MFD incident summary report. The driver had not been identified by The Modesto Bee until Sunday morning. The Stanislaus County Coroner's Office does not release the names of deceased individuals until closest relatives have been notified. PG&E was called to stabilize the pole because it had been "sheared".
