Accident in Mission Bay

On Sunday afternoon, three people sustained serious injuries in a shocking car accident on Mission Bay Drive, allegedly caused by a driver under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to San Diego police. The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. near the northbound exit of Interstate 5 to Mission Bay Drive, when a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu collided violently with a 2014 Toyota Prius at the intersection. All occupants of both vehicles were injured and quickly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Among the victims was a 77-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Prius, suffering severe injuries and currently in critical condition due to the severity of her wounds, as confirmed by SDPD. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 34-year-old man, also sustained serious injuries in the impact, although it has not yet been determined if his injuries are life-threatening. Meanwhile, the driver of the Prius, a 76-year-old man, expressed pain following the accident and was taken to the hospital for further evaluation, although authorities have not provided specific details about his injuries. SDPD indicated that the Chevrolet driver showed clear signs of being under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. While it has not been confirmed if he has been formally arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, police continue to investigate the incident with the collaboration of the Northern Division and Traffic Division.
