Accident in Kelseyville

Another somber incident has added to the growing toll of road fatalities in Lake County this month. In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a solo-vehicle crash resulted in the death of a 67-year-old woman. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed by the California Highway Patrol's Clear Lake Area office, pending notification of her family. The accident took place around 6 a.m. on Highway 281, west of Highway 29 in the Kelseyville area. Reports indicate that the weather conditions were foggy and visibility was low at the time of the incident. The woman was driving alone in a 2019 Buick Encore, heading eastbound on Highway 281, though her speed remains unspecified. For reasons yet unknown, the driver veered the Buick to the left, crossing into the westbound lane of Highway 281, before careening off the roadway and overturning onto its left side after hitting shrubbery. Tragically, medical responders pronounced the woman deceased at the scene. Despite wearing a seatbelt and the deployment of airbags, the impact proved fatal. Authorities, led by CHP Officer Efrain Cortez, are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the cause of death. This unfortunate incident marks the sixth traffic-related fatality in Lake County this month, further highlighting the pressing need for road safety measures and heightened awareness among motorists.
