Accident in Bakersfield:
BAKERSFIELD, California — One person died, and another was hospitalized following a head-on crash on Panama Lane Thursday evening.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that on July 11, 2024, around 5:49 p.m., officers were called to respond to a report of a head-on collision involving two vehicles on Panama Lane, east of Vineland Road.
According to the CHP, it was determined that this crash resulted in one person’s death and left another with severe injuries.
The CHP stated that the driver of a Hyundai, identified as a female, was traveling eastbound on Panama Lane, east of Vineland Road, at an unknown speed. A 40-year-old man from Arvin was driving a GMC westbound on Panama Lane, east of Vineland Road, at approximately 25 miles per hour.
The CHP reported that, for unknown reasons, the Hyundai driver veered into the westbound lane, directly into the path of the GMC. The two vehicles collided, causing significant damage to both. The GMC driver sustained major injuries and was taken to Kern.
The Hyundai driver sustained major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Kern County Fire Department personnel.
The CHP stated that Panama Lane was closed in both directions east of Vineland Road for about three hours for investigation and roadway cleanup.
