Several people, including children, were hospitalized after a major collision in northwest Harris County on Saturday night, as reported by police officers.
Investigators from the Harris County Sheriff's Office believe that one of the three cars ran a red light and caused a collision with the other two vehicles on Fry Road in Morton.
Among the three cars, officers reported that there were a total of six adults and five children, with the youngest ones being 3 and 2 years old.
A 30-year-old man, in critical condition, and an 8-year-old child, who may have suffered a femur fracture, were transported to the hospital by medical helicopter.
The officers stated that this collision could have easily been fatal.
"So far, there have been no ejections from the vehicle. It appears that the minors, or the two young children, were not secured in the vehicle and were thrown around inside it after the collision," said Mark Jenkins, Accident Investigator from the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
The officers informed Eyewitness News that, at this time, they do not believe that alcohol was a factor in the collision, but they pointed out that it is still too early to determine if charges will be filed.
Authorities indicated that the collision serves as a reminder to always ensure that everyone in your car is wearing their seat belt.
"Remember to wear your seat belts. Call an Uber if you are going to drink. In Harris County, we see many people drinking and driving, and these collisions happen too often. Every collision can be prevented," Jenkins affirmed. "Especially when there are children, young children, they should be secured in appropriate safety seats, or at least with seat belts."
